Two indie films are opening in moderate theatrical releases this weekend: 'Carolina Caroline,' a romantic crime thriller that premiered at TIFF, and 'The Last Whale Singer,' an animated adventure. Several other films are making their debuts in limited runs, including the Cannes-selected 'The Little Sister,' a Jack Johnson documentary titled 'SURFILMUSIC,' and the anime 'Jinsei.' Meanwhile, John Carney's 'Power Ballad,' starring Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas, is expanding to 1,275 screens following a successful initial launch.
