Award-Winning Kyrgyz Drama ‘Kurak’ Denied Censor Certificate On Eve Of Bishkek Film Festival Screening
Article excerpt
Kurak, a Kyrgyz drama that won awards at the Busan Film Festival, has been barred from screening in its home country after authorities denied it a censor certificate. The denial forced the film to withdraw from the Bishkek International Film Festival just before its planned premiere, derailing what was supposed to be a triumphant homecoming for directors Erke Dzhumakmatova and Emil Atageldiev following the film's successful international festival run.
