Kiel girls soccer's perfect season came to a close on June 20 with a loss to McFarland in the WIAA Division 3 state championship.

MILWAUKEE, For the second time ever, the Kiel girls soccer team reached the state championship on June 20.

This time though it ended with a 2-0 loss to McFarland in the WIAA Division 3 title game.

It was the fifth-straight trip to state for the Raiders, and second in D3.

It was an amazing season for Kiel, which entered the state championship undefeated in 26 matches before falling to McFarland.

McFarland went up 1-0 in the 25th minute when Bergen Weststrum chipped the ball from outside the box over Kiel goalkeeper Mya Langenfeld.

After leading 1-0 at halftime, the Spartans doubled their lead in the 49th minute as Allison Charbonneau received a cross from Alex Faust before slotting it home.

Senior Taavi Saeger, who had three goals in the state semifinals the day before, finished the season tied for second in the state with 52 goals.

She also led the state with 125 points and ends her career as Kiel's all-time leader in points scored, overtaking the record previously held by Taylor Schad.

McFarland had surrendered only two goals all season entering the state championship so scoring on the Spartans was going to be a tough task.

Kiel was outshot 15-5 in the match and 7-3 in shots on goal.
