The CW's 4-Season Historical Drama With 86% Is Heading to Free Streaming in August

The CW's historical drama Reign , which aired from October 2013 to June 2017, is coming to Pluto TV to stream for free. The Paramount-owned streamer is getting a whole new slate of TV shows.

The historical drama series will join Jane the Virgin , Crazy Ex-Girlfriend , iZombie , Awkward , and Faking It . Beginning Aug. 1, viewers will be able to stream these shows for free. Pluto TV has curated this collection specifically for viewers aged 18 to 34, the platform's fastest-growing audience.

Reign, created by Laurie McCarthy and Stephanie SenGupta, ran for four seasons. While the first season had mixed reviews, critics had overwhelmingly positive things to say about the seasons that came after.

Reign takes place in the late 16th century and follows the life of Mary, Queen of Scots. The series shows her rise to power in French court and stars Adelaide Kane ( Once Upon a Time, Grey's Anatomy ) as Queen Mary Stuart.

Season 1 of Reign begins in 1557, when Queen Mary is 15 years old and living in a convent in France. She returns to the castle to await her marriage to 15-year-old Crown Prince Francis, to whom she was promised at age six. Amid the politics and power struggles, Mary is also developing feelings for Francis' half-brother, Bash, who was born out of wedlock.

Season 2 takes place after the death of King Henry II, and sees Francis and Mary rise to power as King and Queen of France and Scotland. They deal with the competing ambitions of another house for the throne of France, as well as the religious struggle between Catholics and Protestants.

Season 3 begins as King Francis' health is declining, and his death midway through the season leaves Mary a widow. As a result, Francis' brother Charles becomes the king of France, removing power from Mary. The season also features Queen Elizabeth I of England, who tries to steal power away from her cousin Mary. Mary, meanwhile, is fending off marriage proposals and hiding her affair with Lord Robert Dudley.

Finally, the fourth and final season, which begins in 1563, opens with Queen Mary as Scotland's ruler as she tries to consolidate her power at home. She fends off enemies and manages allies, all the while Queen Elizabeth is plotting to dethrone her. The series finally ends in 1587.

Season 1 of Reign currently has a 58% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, with 52 verified reviews. While People magazine wrote, "This is all good, capering, costume-ball fun, even if Mary's life was dismal," The AV Club said, " Reign feels like watching several shows at once, each superimposed on the other so that none makes a true impression."

The audience score for Season 1, though, was 83%, a stark difference from the critic score. Meanwhile, Seasons 2 and 3 both had a 100% critic score, though they only had seven and five verified reviews, respectively.

Reign will be available to stream on Pluto TV beginning Aug. 1.
