Prenatal health and early diet may shape fatty liver risk, study suggests
Article excerpt
Excess fat accumulation in the liver may originate earlier than previously thought. Researchers at Tampere University and the University of Eastern Finland found that maternal health during pregnancy and early childhood nutrition can have lasting effects on liver health later in life, suggesting fatty liver disease isn't simply the product of inherited genes and adult lifestyle choices. The study challenges the conventional understanding that adult factors alone determine hepatic fat buildup.
