Werder Bremen have renewed the contract of full back Mitchell Weiser who missed the entire past season with a cruciate knee ligament tear.
Bremen gave no details while news reports said that the 32-year-old received a one-year extension until 2027.
“For me, Mitch is almost like a new signing. We hope he comes back from his injury in top shape. There’s no question about the quality he has as a player and he will be a real asset to our team,” coach Daniel Thioune said.
Weiser joined Bremen in 2021 from Bayer Leverkusen, first on loan and then on a full contract a year later. He has played 123 matches, scoring 14 goals and providing 29 assists, and is to return from his severe injury for the start of pre-season training in July.
"I’m really looking forward to the new season and that I’ll be staying at Werder. I can’t wait to be back out on the pitch and I’ll do everything I can to help us play attractive and successful football," Weiser said.
