Penn State named “early contender” for top-100 prospect in 2028

Article excerpt

Penn State has a loaded recruiting class in 2028, and it could get even more talented with four-star offensive tackle Cannon Zubeck showing interest.

Matt Campbell has had to learn a few tough lessons in recruiting lately, with a recent commitment flip from four-star running back Aiden Gibson, but he’s also had some successes. He has nine four-star commitments across the 2027 and 2028 classes and should be able to land a bunch more in the future.

Penn State’s Class of 2028 is already one of the best in the country, with one of the best cornerbacks in the class, Deonte Flemings Jr., and a promising kicker prospect. They are hoping to add a true tenure-defining commitment from four-star offensive tackle Cannon Zubeck, who has been talking up the school a lot recently.

Zubeck told On3 Sports that he would “love to get to the in-state schools, Penn State, Oregon, Tennessee, Oklahoma.” It’s important that the Nittany Lions were the first school he mentioned, as he would later discuss things that stand out about the school, like, “The morals that their program stands by, the toughness they want out of their players.”

To be fair, Zubeck also spoke highly of the other schools listed above, but Penn State hasn’t even officially offered him yet, so it’s promising that he’s so high on them already. These comments should give the school the green light to extend him an offer, or at the very least invite him to the school to take the relationship to the next level.

Zubeck is a massive player, currently standing at 6-7 and weighing 280 pounds, who has the potential to be one of the great offensive line prospects of all time. Rivals has the Kansas native ranked as the third-best offensive tackle in 2028 and the No. 18 overall prospect out of the top 300.

With two more years of high school ball and much more room to grow into an even larger player, Zubeck has an excellent chance to earn a fifth star before his recruitment is complete. Landing him at Penn State would be the biggest win of the Campbell era by far.
