Homeless Maniac Goes On Stabbing Rampage At Penn Station

Article excerpt

A man stabbed six people at Penn Station on Sunday evening, injuring victims ranging from 30 to 60 years old on an NJ Transit platform. The attack unfolded after 7 p.m. as New York City prepared for its first NBA Finals game since 1999. Authorities responded to the rampage at one of the city's busiest transit hubs, raising fresh concerns about safety in public spaces during high-traffic events.

A homeless man stabbed six people in a rampage in New York City’s Penn Station Sunday night as the city prepares for its first NBA Finals game since 1999.

The attack occurred Sunday evening after 7 p.m. on the NJ Transit course, and the victims were all men ranging from 30 to 60, The New York Post reported. The attack is believed to be unprovoked. Photos published by the Post show blood staining the boarding area floor, and one victim being carted out of the station by paramedics.

The stabbing rampage took place just a day before the Knicks take on the San Antonio Spurs for Game 3 of the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden, which sits directly above Penn Station. The game will be attended by numerous celebrities, and President Donald Trump is also expected to make an appearance. The NYPD and Secret Service has been working to increase security around the Garden and Penn Station in preparation for the president’s arrival.

“Wow, I mean, I guess I’m not surprised, though. I mean, Penn Station is not known for being the most safe area, especially in the evening, especially with just how busy it’s been recently with the Knicks game, the Trump coming,” Sanai Rashid, 21, told the Post. “It’s been a bit of a messy summer in general. I think crime does go up as well, but I do think there probably should be more security in Penn Station, but that’s devastating.”

The alleged attacker, who the police said was emotionally disturbed, was identified as 51-year-old Hector Deleon. Footage from ABC Eyewitness News shows police carrying the man to a wheelchair, and he was then taken into custody, according to authorities.

Medics from Bellevue Hospital rushed five victims from the scene. They say that two victims sustained minor injuries, another two people sustained moderate injuries, and one person was severely injured. All five men are expected to survive. A sixth victim suffered minor injuries and was transported to New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, according to Fox News.

The Amtrak Police are currently leading the investigation into the mass stabbing.

One woman who spoke to reporters outside Penn Station with her 7-year-old son said that the attack “freaks you out” and causes people to wonder whether “you should even be using the subway with your kids.”
