Why some USB ports are purple (and why they're rarely sold in the US)
Article excerpt
Purple USB ports exist as a color-coded standard for specific device types, particularly in professional and industrial applications where quick identification matters. The USB Implementers Forum created various connector colors to help users instantly recognize what speed or power specification they're dealing with, blue for USB 3.0, red for high-power charging, and purple for specialized uses. These non-standard colors remain rare in U.S. consumer electronics because American manufacturers largely stick to black connectors for compatibility with existing devices and consumer expectations, even though the color-coding system could reduce user confusion.
