Tourette patients face high suicide risk, pain and discrimination, report reveals
Article excerpt
One in four teenagers and adults with Tourette syndrome or other tic disorders have attempted suicide, according to a new report from the Tourette Association of America. The 2026 Impact Survey reveals that patients face not only the involuntary movements and vocalizations that define the condition, but also severe psychological burdens including depression, anxiety, and widespread social discrimination. While Tourette syndrome is often the subject of jokes, the report underscores that for those living with it, the condition creates a genuinely difficult existence marked by pain, isolation, and elevated suicide risk.
