Three-star offensive lineman Shavezz Dixon commits to UNC

Article excerpt

North Carolina signed three-star offensive lineman Shavezz Dixon to its 2027 recruiting class, bolstering the Tar Heels' offensive line depth. Dixon, a prospect who drew interest from multiple programs, chose UNC as his college destination. The commitment adds to what has become an increasingly competitive recruiting haul for the program as it builds toward the next cycle. Offensive line development remains a priority for the coaching staff, and Dixon's addition signals continued focus on protecting the quarterback and opening running lanes.

North Carolina strengthened its 2027 recruiting class Monday by landing three-star offensive lineman Shavezz Dixon, the Tar Heels’ seventh commitment of the cycle and second offensive line pledge.

Dixon, a 6-foot-4, 325-pound lineman from Lee County High in Leesburg, Georgia, chose UNC over fellow finalists Florida State, Georgia Tech, Pittsburgh and Virginia. He announced his decision at a ceremony at his high school and will follow with an official visit to Chapel Hill on June 12.

A mid-April visit to UNC played a key role in Dixon’s commitment.

“This experience definitely pushed [UNC] up to the top,” Dixon told On3. “I definitely say that they’re one of the top three schools, if not [No.] 1, that I’m definitely looking at towards my decision.”

North Carolina also benefited from a familiar connection, as Dixon’s former Lee County teammate Leroy Jackson is now a sophomore defensive lineman for the Tar Heels.

Dixon had originally planned to announce his decision on July 8 after taking a full slate of official visits. Instead, he accelerated his timeline last month after an official visit to Virginia, trimming his list of finalists and moving his commitment date up to June 5. In addition to Virginia, he had been scheduled to officially visit his other finalists as well as Texas A&M.

His pledge came on the same day three-star offensive lineman Lauifi Tosi announced his commitment to UNC after a visit to Chapel Hill the previous weekend.
