2026 Sunburst Award Longlist

The Sunburst Award, which honors excellence in Canadian speculative fiction, announced its 2026 longlist on May 25. Five titles made the cut, including C.J. Lavigne's The Drowned Man's Daughter, Hiron Ennes's The Works of Vermin, and Mireille Gagné's Horsefly (translated by Pablo Strauss). Amanda Leduc's Wild Life and Jen Sookfong Lee's The Hunger We Pass Down round out the selection. The award recognizes Canadian writers working in science fiction, fantasy, and horror.
The longlist for the 2026 Sunburst Award for Excellence in Canadian Literature of the Fantastic was announced May 25, 2026:

The shortlist will be announced in June and winner will be announced in the fall. The winner receives a medallion with the Sunburst logo and a cash prize of CAD $3,000. The jurors for the 2026 Award are A.G. Pasquella, Daniel Perry, and A.C. Wise.
