Wis.: Beagle testing facility closes, final hundreds of 2K rescued dogs sent to Fla. and Ala.
Article excerpt
A Wisconsin beagle breeding facility that operated for nearly 60 years is permanently closing, with the final 475 dogs being transferred to rescue organizations in Florida and Alabama. The closure comes after an agreement with a Florida-based rescue group and represents the end of a major research operation in Dane County. Over 2,000 beagles have been rescued from the facility in total. The dogs, many bred for medical testing purposes, will now be rehomed through animal welfare organizations rather than continue in laboratory settings.
