Next 2 contract extension candidates for Jaguars after Brenton Strange deal

Article excerpt

Following Brenton Strange's contract extension, here are the next two extension candidates for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Tight end Brenton Strange was the latest member of the Jacksonville Jaguars to receive a contract extension. Ross Matiscik and Travon Walker have also received extensions this offseason.

So who's next?

There are a few candidates, the most noteworthy being Parker Washington, who is entering the final year of his rookie deal.

Jaguars contract extension candidate: WR Parker Washington

As last season progressed, Washington saw his opportunities increase. From there, he became a go-to target for Trevor Lawrence, and by the end of the season, he was one of the most productive receivers in football.

Washington would lead the Jaguars in receiving this past season, totaling 954 receiving yards, including the playoffs, with Washington eclipsing the 100-yard mark in three of the Jaguars' final four games.

ESPN's Michael DiRocco reported that shortly after the 2025 season ended, the Jaguars had "preliminary discussions" with Washington about an extension.

Jaguars contract extension candidate: S Antonio Johnson

Another player who could be an extension candidate is safety Antonio Johnson, who put together a breakout season in 2025.

Like Washington, Johnson saw more opportunities as the 2025 season went along. He graded out well as a run defender by PFF's metrics, held pass catchers to under 10 yards per reception this season, and came away with five interceptions and three pass breakups.

Johnson brings a high level of versatility to the Jaguars' defense, which provides defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile with ample flexibility as he builds out game plans.

There hasn't been any reporting on whether or not the Jaguars have engaged with Johnson about an extension at this point. But as DiRocco mentioned recently, when discussing a possible Strange extension, James Gladstone has shown he's more than willing to negotiate in-season, so there is still time for something to manifest.
