Aston Villa demand €5m for Emi Martinez as Juventus prowl

Article excerpt

Juventus is hunting for a new goalkeeper and has set its sights on Aston Villa's Emi Martinez, prompting Villa to demand €5 million for the Argentine shot-stopper. The Serie A club faces uncertainty in goal with Michele Di Gregorio and Mattia Perin both drawing questions about their reliability. Martinez, a key figure in Villa's recent success, represents an attractive option for Juventus, though the clubs remain apart on valuation. Any deal faces obstacles as Villa has little incentive to part with a goalkeeper performing at a high level.

Aston Villa demand €5m for Emi Martinez as Juventus prowl

Serie A side Juventus are desperate to sign a new goalkeeper, as doubts remain about Michele Di Gregorio and Mattia Perin. Aston Villa’s Emi Martinez has emerged as a possible option but a deal is unlikely to be easy.

Get Italian Football News have covered how Guglielmo Vicario’s candidacy has only risen in recent weeks, with Juve scrambling for options.

Sky Italiareport now that Martinez remains a concrete option too. While he does have a long-term deal with Aston Villa, Unai Emery’s side want only €5 million to part ways with him. What will be an even bigger problem is Martinez’s own wage demands, which stand at €7 million.

This is much more than what Tottenham’s Vicario would demand. Spurs want €15m to sell him but it is his wages that make him a much more viable and appealing option for Juve.

Champions League can make difference

As things stand, Aston Villa will play in the Champions League next season. That is true for neither Juventus or Tottenham, who only played the competition last season.

Vicario, by moving to Juve, will get Europa League football, which Spurs aren’t offering. This will make a move to Turin quite good for the Italian, with Juve also benefitting from his low salary demands.

Tottenham could also be happy, as Vicario’s current deal runs out in 2028, making 2026 a good time to earn a decent fee.
