The FBI built a small town to simulate cyberattacks
Article excerpt
The FBI opened a 22,000-square-foot Cyber Range in Huntsville, Alabama last year to train agents in defending against digital attacks. The facility mimics an entire town, complete with a convenience store, gas station, hospital, and furnished houses, along with fake infrastructure like power companies and data centers. It functions as a digital-age equivalent to Hogan's Alley, the FBI's famous firearms training ground, but designed to let agents practice responding to real-world cyberattacks in a controlled environment that can simulate price-gouging scenarios and other criminal exploits.
