Machine Gun Kelly wasted little time celebrating Conor McGregor‘s latest setback. Shortly after McGregor suffered a devastating knee injury during his UFC 329 loss to Max Holloway, the musician took to Instagram to mock the former two-division champion.

Tagging McGregor alongside footage from the fight, MGK ridiculed how quickly the Irish fighter’s knee gave out and suggested age had finally caught up with him. “Knees weak of old age the real conor can’t stand up,” Kelly wrote, adding a clown emoji. The jab immediately reignited one of the more unusual celebrity feuds in recent memory.
The tension between the two dates back to the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards, where McGregor and Kelly were involved in a heated altercation on the red carpet. Video from the incident appeared to show McGregor lunging toward the musician before security intervened.
Additional footage circulating online later showed drinks being thrown as the confrontation escalated. At the time, Megan Fox was seen attempting to separate the two men while security personnel worked to prevent the situation from becoming physical.
Despite the viral footage, McGregor’s team downplayed the incident afterward, issuing a brief statement that read, “Conor only fights fighters.” Neither man has publicly buried the hatchet since.
McGregor’s UFC Return Was Overshadowed By Ongoing Legal Controversies

Long before his knee gave out against Max Holloway, Conor McGregor’s return to the UFC had become one of the most polarizing comeback stories in sports.
Much of the criticism stemmed from a November 2024 civil court verdict in Ireland, where a Dublin jury found McGregor liable for sexually assaulting Nikita Hand during an encounter at a hotel penthouse in 2018. McGregor denied the allegations throughout the proceedings, but the court ultimately awarded Hand damages and later ordered him to cover substantial legal costs.
The case drew international attention because Irish prosecutors had previously declined to pursue criminal charges, citing insufficient evidence to meet the higher criminal standard of proof. The civil case ultimately moved forward and ended with a jury finding against the former UFC champion.
McGregor appealed the ruling, arguing that errors were made during the trial, but Ireland’s Court of Appeal unanimously dismissed those arguments in July 2025, leaving the judgment intact.
The legal issues did not end there. McGregor is also facing a separate civil lawsuit in Florida stemming from allegations that he sexually assaulted a woman in a bathroom at Miami’s Kaseya Center during the 2023 NBA Finals. McGregor has denied those allegations, and the case remains ongoing.
Jimmy Fallon Faced Intense Backlash For Hosting McGregor Ahead Of UFC 329

The controversy surrounding McGregor’s return reached beyond the sports world when he appeared on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” in June to promote UFC 329.
The interview was intended to showcase McGregor’s long-awaited return to competition and his claims that he had recommitted himself to training, faith, and personal growth. However, many viewers were quick to point out that neither Fallon nor McGregor addressed the civil court verdict that had dominated headlines just months earlier.
The omission sparked immediate backlash online.

Actress Christina Ricci was among the most prominent critics, sharing a viral social media post that condemned Fallon for giving McGregor a national platform despite the civil judgment against him. “Shame on you, Jimmy, for platforming this human garbage,” the post said. “We need to stop pretending like r-pe is OK.”
Comedian Kathy Griffin also joined the criticism, while thousands of viewers flooded social media and YouTube comment sections questioning why the late-night host avoided discussing the controversy. “I think the Fallon folks made a mistake by having Conor McGregor on,” Griffin said, per Variety.
“I think it sends yet another message to women and marginalized folks everywhere that we’re not equal and you can do anything to us, and the perpetrators are still going to be out there being glorified,” she added.

Despite suffering what UFC President Dana White said is a suspected ACL tear, McGregor made it clear that he has no plans to walk away from the sport. In a series of posts on X following the fight, the former two-division champion expressed disbelief over the injury, insisting he entered UFC 329 fully healthy after months of preparation.
“My head gasket is gone,” McGregor wrote. “Destroyed. I had no injury / injuries going into the fight. I was throwing kicks, planted and jumping, all throughout camp as well as backstage before the fight. This came out of nowhere.”
McGregor also pushed back against speculation that he appeared physically compromised before stepping into the Octagon, calling claims about his pre-fight movement “nonsense.” “I was so sharp and so ready for this fight, I cannot believe what has happened,” he added. “I am in shock what has taken place.”
While acknowledging the emotional toll of the injury, McGregor insisted he remains determined to overcome yet another major obstacle in his career. “The devil is literally staring at me right in front of my face here,” he wrote. “I will be at church tomorrow. I will overcome this. I will not be deterred. I will return.”
