Written exposure therapy can provide transformative, scalable PTSD care
Article excerpt
Written Exposure Therapy offers a promising solution to a critical gap: most people with PTSD never receive treatment, often because traditional therapy requires trained specialists who are in short supply. JMIR Publications released research showing that WET, where patients write about their trauma in structured sessions, delivers results comparable to conventional exposure therapy but requires far less clinician expertise, making it viable for under-resourced communities and overwhelmed mental health systems. The approach could dramatically expand access to effective care for millions struggling with PTSD.
