Boston Blue fans have just been given some great news. CBS revealed today the premiere dates for its fall lineup, which includes the Blue Bloods spinoff.

CBS announced that Boston Blue Season 2 will launch on Friday, Oct. 9, at 10 PM. It will air after Sheriff Country at 8 PM and Fire Country at 9 PM. Those two shows, set in the same universe, are returning for their second and fifth seasons, respectively.

Boston Blue focuses on the next chapters of both Donnie Wahlberg's Danny Reagan and his younger son Sean. Due to an NYPD hiring freeze, Sean moves to Boston to become a patrol officer, with Danny taking a position with the BPD after a case involving his son occurs.

Andrew Tarraciano originated the role of Sean Reagan in Blue Bloods . However, for Boston Blue , the character was recast, with Mika Amonsen taking over the role.

Despite the recasting, executive producer Brandon Margolis is open to having Tarraciano appear on Boston Blue as a new character. "If the right opportunities are there, we never say no to a great idea," he said in December 2025.

Margolis developed Boston Blue for CBS with Brandon Sonnier. The series originally began life as a standalone project with no ties to Blue Bloods . However, CBS saw an opportunity to rework the premise into the first extension of the Blue Bloods franchise.

Boston Blue received a straight-to-series order in February 2025. The spinoff premiered on CBS in October 2025 with a first season consisting of 20 episodes.

Despite featuring a new cast of characters, four more Blue Bloods alums appeared during the first season. Marisa Ramirez recurred as Detective Maria Baez, Danny's girlfriend and former partner. Bridget Moynahan, Len Cariou, and Will Hochman also made guest appearances as Erin Reagan, Henry Reagan, and Detective Joe Hill, respectively.

Of course, the one Blue Bloods actor who fans want to see the most on Boston Blue is Tom Selleck. The actor portrayed Commissioner Frank Reagan, the father of Wahlberg's Danny, on the long-running CBS drama series.

According to Wahlberg's Boston Blue co-star Sonequa Martin-Green, the reason Selleck has yet to appear on the spinoff has to do with being unable to find the right reason to bring him back.

"We’ve been talking about Mr. Selleck for a long time," Martin-Green said in May 2026. "He is always getting asked, and as Donnie [Wahlberg] always says, the door’s open. We would love to have him and we will make sure the story is just right because Tom is so adamant about the story, as he should be and as we all should be."

The actor continued, "I think it would be great if we can have him , and I’m excited for whatever story it ends up being if he does come. I want everybody from Blue Bloods on this show, but it’d be nice to see Tom."

Boston Blue returns with its Season 2 premiere on CBS on Oct. 9.
