The NCIS verse will return on CBS this fall. The network announced today when the three returning shows will premiere.
NCIS will kick off its 24th season on CBS on Tuesday, Oct. 6 at 8 PM. The series premiere of NCIS: New York will then launch at 9 PM, followed by NCIS: Origins ' third season at 10 PM.
NCIS was created by Donald P. Bellisario as a spinoff of the legal drama series JAG . Each series in the franchise follows special agents tasked with investigating military-related crimes.
The original show launched on CBS in 2003. Mark Harmon was the lead star of NCIS for its first 18 seasons, portraying the fan-favorite Leroy Jethro Gibbs, who led the NCIS unit based at the Washington Navy Yard in Washington, D.C.
Harmon left NCIS at the start of Season 19, with Gary Cole coming in as his replacement, NCIS Supervisory Special Agent Alden Parker. However, Harmon remains heavily involved with the prequel, NCIS: Origins . He will even return as Gibbs for a season-long story arc in the show's upcoming third season.
NCIS: Origins focuses on Gibbs' early career as a newly minted special agent at the fledgling NIS Camp Pendleton office, where he forges his place on a gritty, ragtag team led by NCIS legend Mike Franks. Austin Stowell portrays the younger Gibbs in Origins , while Harmon serves as narrator.
New York is the latest spinoff. LL Cool J is reprising his role as Sam Hanna, a former Special Agent of the Office of Special Projects in Los Angeles. The new series will see the character return to his hometown of New York City to lead a team of NCIS.
Scott Caan will co-star as Sam's new "roguish" partner, Nick Schaeffer. The cast also includes Jennifer Beals, Jacqueline Byers, Shane Harper, and Devin Druid.
