Weather impacting UIL Baseball State Championship schedule

Article excerpt

Storms battered Friday's UIL Baseball State Championship games, forcing multiple delays and cancellations that rippled into Saturday's schedule. The UIL announced several adjustments to get the tournament back on track, though the exact nature of those changes and which games were most affected remain unclear from the available details. Weather continues to pose a challenge for organizers trying to crown state champions on their intended timeline.

Inclement weather in the Central Texas area has impacted the schedule for the final two days of the 2026 UIL Baseball State Championships.

Eleven UIL state title games were initially scheduled to run from Thursday, June 4, through Saturday, June 6.

Thursday’s action in the 2A DII, 2A DI, 3A DII and 3A DI UIL baseball state title games proceeded as scheduled.

However, significant thunderstorms and inclement weather throughout Friday’s action have delayed several games and postponed the start times of many other UIL state championship games this weekend.

Rain delays left their mark on Saturday’s slate of Class 4A and 5A state title game matchups starting early in the morning.

Corpus Christi Calallen and Texarkana Pleasant Grove started 50 minutes behind schedule and also endured a 58-minute weather delay before their game in the 4A DI UIL Baseball State Championship ended at 1:07 p.m.

That led to Brock and Waco Robinson starting their game in the 4A DII UIL Baseball State Championship 76 minutes behind schedule.

They also had to wait out a separate 48-minute weather delay before their state title game matchup concluded at 5:19 p.m. significantly behind the pace set by the UIL’s original schedule.

Then the third weather delay of the day struck in the top of the first inning of the 5A DII UIL Baseball State Championship game between Aledo and Montgomery Lake Creek at 6:59 p.m. on Friday, delaying action by more than an hour.

That resulted in the University Interscholastic League releasing updated expected start times for the four remaining UIL Baseball State Championship Games.

Updated UIL state baseball schedule

The Gordon Longhorns (23-4) and Groveton Centerville Bulldogs (23-1) were originally scheduled to clash in the Class 1A UIL Baseball State Championship game at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning. The Longhorns and Bulldogs will now instead square off at noon Saturday at Dell Diamond.

Gordon and Groveton Centerville will wait to take the field until the conclusion of the Class 5A Division I UIL state title game between the Sharyland Rattlers (38-5) and the Lucas Lovejoy Leopards (33-6-1).

Sharyland and Lovejoy, who were originally slated for a 7 p.m. start time Friday night, will instead kick off Saturday’s action at Dell Diamond with a 9 a.m. first pitch.

The start time for the 6A DI UIL state title game between the Lake Travis Cavaliers (32-11-1) and the Keller Indians (39-4-2) has bumped back three hours to a 3 p.m. first pitch Saturday.

The 6A DII UIL state championship game between the Houston Memorial Mustangs (34-7) and the Tomball Cougars (42-1-1) will also start two hours later than originally scheduled with first pitch slated for 6 p.m. Saturday.
