As science continues to advance, many psychotherapeutic approaches have updated their theories and practices accordingly. However, existentialism has remained ambivalent to these developments, leading it to appear less effective, rigorous, or valid, despite ample evidence to the contrary. The purpose of this article is twofold. First, it is an invitation for natural-scientifically trained psychologists and psychotherapists to recognize the substantive benefits of grounding their thinking and practice in human-scientific philosophical reflection. Second, to encourage existentially oriented psychologists and psychotherapists to appreciate the added value of natural-scientific perspectives, particularly those that focus on the body and the brain. In short, the overriding aim is to contribute to a more unified epistemological discourse across the disciplines devoted to studying and caring for human beings.
