Tonight the Moon is full and brilliant, nearly 96% illuminated. This is wonderful for lunar observation and safe nighttime walks, but the bright moonlight will wash out fainter stars and makes spotting meteors tougher. If you're planning to stargaze, consider heading out after the Moon sets, or wait for a darker night when it wanes.

Mark your calendar for mid-August: the Perseids meteor shower peaks around August 12, just 16 days away. This is one of the best annual meteor showers. For the best viewing, find a spot away from city lights, give your eyes 20 minutes to adjust to the darkness, and look upward. A moonless or moonset night will let you catch far more meteors than a bright one.
