Mass timber takes center stage at IWF

At IWF 2026, mass timber takes center stage with the debut of the Mass Timber & Prefab Showcase at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta. This dedicated exhibit features the latest engineered wood technologies, structural building products, and prefabricated innovations.

Ethan Abramson, owner of Ethan Abramson furniture and social media “voice” of the show, says that mass timber technologies are the “wood industry’s newest obsession.” 

According to WoodWorks, there are currently 2,746 mass timber projects built, under construction, or in the design phase across the United States in 2026. The adoption of engineered timber is expanding rapidly, with the total number of projects growing by roughly 20 percent year over year. 

“But, with over 2,500 mass timber projects currently in progress in the U.S., it definitely has been having its moment,” said Abramson.

Mass timber, such as cross-laminated timbers and glue-laminated timbers, is constructed by layering and bonding lumber to make structural building materials. “Mass timber is being used as sustainable and eco-friendly alternatives to metal and concrete for construction of larger buildings,” he said. 

Products on display At IWF 2026, the mass timber showcase will feature 32 exhibitors, and overall there are more than 60 companies exhibiting who say they offer products or services for the mass timber industry.

Among the myriad products on display are tooling, controls, software, services and more.

In terms of equipment, attendees can view multi-axis CNC machines and gantry routers capable of drilling, routing, and cutting structural timber panels and beams to precise tolerances. Also on display will be high-capacity crosscut saws, optimizing saws, and panel sizing machines, as well as 3D panel laminating presses, gluing systems, and clamp carriers to bond and compress layers of timber, plus moulders and sanding machines that work with large timber sections.

These are just a handful of the products on display, with more onsite.
