Giants make flurry of roster additions on eve of training camp

Article excerpt

The Giants hosted some familiar names for a tryout and signed two relative unknowns.

The New York Giants took another formal step into the John Harbaugh era on Tuesday as veterans reported to the team's East Rutherford facility. After completing physicals, the full roster is scheduled to travel to The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, where training camp will be held through early August.

Rookies had already reported last week, giving the newcomers a head start at the temporary site.

The decision to relocate camp stems from ongoing renovations at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center and the recent World Cup schedule at MetLife Stadium.

Tuesday’s activities are limited to medical evaluations. There will be no practice or media availability. That changes Wednesday, when general manager Joe Schoen and head coach John Harbaugh are scheduled to address reporters. The team’s first on-field practice of camp is also set for Wednesday.

The move to West Virginia marks the Giants’ first road training camp since 2012. Harbaugh has emphasized a more rigorous approach than the franchise has seen in recent years, with practices planned for most days at the resort. Open sessions for fans are scheduled to begin later in the week.

For a team looking to reset under new leadership, the arrival of the full roster signals the real work is about to begin.
