Ridgewood baseball holds on to win high-scoring sectional title game
Article excerpt
Ridgewood baseball won a high-scoring sectional title game, scoring 10 runs on 13 hits to claim the crown. The victory carries extra weight: the team faced the same opponent in the same park where it lost last year's sectional final. The win represents redemption for a squad that had fallen short in identical circumstances just twelve months earlier.
WAYNE − The memory of last year’s North 1, Group 4 sectional final remained in the minds of Ridgewood baseball players.
Facing the same opponent in the same park − top seed Passaic Tech at Bulldog Stadium − the No. 3 seed Maroons produced the reversal they sought.
Seniors Kotaro Kim and Hudson Feeney homered in a 13-hit barrage that propelled Ridgewood past the Bulldogs, 10-8, on Friday, June 5.
Passaic Tech (28-3) scored twice in the home seventh inning and had the bases loaded with two outs. Senior Brady Ross came on to get the final out on a grounder, sealing the Maroons’ second sectional title in four seasons.
Ridgewood (23-7) had more regular-season power points than either North 2 sectional finalist, so the Maroons will host either Ridge or Watchung Hills in the Group 4 semifinals on Monday, June 8.
