FC Köln and Eintracht Braunschweig snap up Leipzig academy duo

RB Leipzig's academy has lost two promising young players in a single transfer window. Defender Lionel Voufack is joining FC Köln while midfielder Frederik Jäkel moves to Eintracht Braunschweig. Both players came through Leipzig's youth system but have opted to seek regular playing time elsewhere in the German leagues rather than compete for spots in the senior squad.
FC Köln and Eintracht Braunschweig snap up Leipzig academy duo
RB Leipzig have confirmed that Lionel Voufack is joining FC Köln, while Frederik Jäkel is making the move to Eintracht Braunschweig.
Voufack, a defender by trade, hails from Leipzig and completed his footballing education at the Saxony-based club's academy.
The 18-year-old will join up with 1.FC Köln's U-21 team for the upcoming 2026-27 season and left in search of more game time.
Meanwhile, another Leipzig youth talent im Frederik Jäkel will join Eintracht Braunschweig permanently this summer.
The center-back spent the 2025-26 season on loan with the Germany second-division club and has now returned on a permanent basis.
From 2013 to 2020, Jäkel progressed through all age groups in RB Leipzig's youth academy before playing on loan for KV Oostende.
Alongside the Belgian side he represented Arminia Bielefeld, SV Elversberg, and Eintracht Braunschweig, playing 45 games in total.
