MSU football makes top 12 list for 5-star in-state OT prospect
Article excerpt
Michigan State has landed a spot on the recruitment wish list for one of the nation's most coveted high school offensive linemen. The in-state prospect, ranked among the top players in the 2028 class, narrowed his choices to 12 schools, including the Spartans. The development signals MSU's ability to compete for elite talent close to home, a crucial factor in college football recruiting where proximity often influences a player's decision-making process.
Michigan State is one of 12 teams still in the running for arguably the top player in the 2028 class.
Antijuan Wilkes Jr. of Detroit released his top 12 schools list on Thursday, with the Spartans remaining in the fold. Along with Michigan State, Wilkes is still considering the following schools: Georgia, Miami (FL), Missouri, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Ohio State, Michigan, Florida, LSU, Oregon and Alabama.
Wilkes, who plays for Michigan high school powerhouse Cass Tech, is listed as a five-star offensive tackle in the 2028 class. He is ranked as the top offensive tackle and No. 6 overall player in Rivals' rankings for the 2028 class.
Michigan State is one of nearly 30 schools to extend an offer to Wilkes, according to 247Sports. He picked up his offer from Michigan State last October and the new coaching staff has remained persistent in his recruitment as well.
