Barcelona set to pivot to Bournemouth wonderkid amid Alvarez struggles

Article excerpt

Barcelona is exploring a move for a Bournemouth prospect as an alternative to Julian Alvarez, who has struggled to deliver consistent performances for the Spanish club. The Catalan giants are turning their attention to the Premier League market, signaling a potential shift in their transfer strategy. Barcelona's scouts have identified the young talent as a potential solution to their attacking woes this season. The move would represent a significant pivot from their previous pursuit of established targets, reflecting the club's willingness to invest in developing young talent alongside their veteran roster.

Heading into the Summer transfer window, Barcelona were slated to get done plenty of work, with the likes of Bernardo Silva and Marc Cucurella being linked to a move to the Camp Nou. But in reality, it's looking like they haven't done all that they were hoping for, with their main acquisition being that of Anthony Gordon, who made the move after the Catalonian side forked up € 70 million to Newcastle United.

Gordon and Silva weren't the only players that Barcelona were reportedly interested in, as their eyes kept getting fixated on Atletico Madrid's Julian Alvarez. The interest in the Argentine wasn't just exclusive to Barcelona, as their arch rivals, Real Madrid, shared this sentiment, and reportedly sent an offer in the range of 150 million euros over to their cross-town rivals, which was immediately rejected.

This move by Los Blancos not only cashed them out of the race to acquire Alvarez, but inadvertently did the same thing for Barcelona, making them switch their aims towards another target. It appears that their next transfer target could be making his way up the food chain in the Premier League, as they've been caught looking at Bournemouth's Junior Kroupi.

As reported by Spanish journalist Adrian Sanchez, the Catalan side has shown interest in Bournemouth's wonderkid, who is coming off a breakout season in the English Premier League, bulging the back of the net on 13 different occasions, which, for being a 19-year-old in what can be a very demanding league at times, is something to keep in mind.

It's worth noting that these numbers are also down from those of Barcelona's aforementioned previous transfer target, Alvarez, who was involved in the creation of 29 goals, with 20 of them being strikes into the back of the net from his own foot.

Barcelona haven't been the only top European side looking towards the Frenchman, as defending European champions Paris Saint-Germain were originally interested in acquiring his services in late May, but it's not known about the level of their interests with the Summer transfer window offically under way.
